Compostage des boues. La transformation des boues en un amendement de sols facilement épandable peut être obtenue par compostage. Les boues sont normalement prédéshydratées par voie mécanique et ensuite mélangées à un matériau qui, d'une part, apporte de la matière carbonée et, d'autre part, réduit l'humidité du mélange pour en faciliter la maturation.
